As mask and vaccine mandates ease up, Dr. Durie emphasizes the need to practice common sense and caution among myeloma patients to ensure their continued protection from COVID-19. Safe practices such as avoiding the 3 Cs: Closed spaces, Crowded places, and Close Contact settings as well as continued use of high-quality masks in high-risk situations should remain top of mind — especially with the limited availability of key treatments. Additionally, practicing mindfulness and achieving greater calm in our daily lives (based on Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn’s teachings) will help us re-emerge hopeful, with the end of the pandemic in sight.

Spearheaded by the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), Myeloma Action Month is held every year for the whole month of March to encourage individuals and groups to take actions that positively impact the myeloma community. This year’s Myeloma Action Month is all about taking action to make a difference — actions that individuals or groups can take, to draw attention to and increase awareness of the disease; to inspire a culture of hope and resilience; and to foster community-building. Help spread myeloma awareness on a global scale by using the hashtag #MYelomaACTION, on all social media channels — Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. All related posts will be displayed on the IMF’s digital “Wall of ACTION” at the Myeloma Action Month website.
